- Mr. Dong is a 2nd generation Asian American, making him a part of the Baby Bloomer group.
- He grew up in the 50’s and became active in the 60’s and 70’s, which included demanding for ethnic studies and Asian American studies programs at UC Berkeley.
- Teaching involves books, but also activities through community engagement through field trips, investigating, and discussion. There are conferences, topic-related research, and community work that students can get involved in.
- Asian American studies is growing because the students’ interest in the community is growing.
- I did not have the opportunity to interview Mr. Dong, but it is important to mention him because he was very involved in the Asian American Movement at UC Berkeley as an activist and he is a lecturer in the Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies department.
